Played 'cello from the age of eleven. Faced with a career choice at age nineteen of becoming a jazz musician or getting 'a proper job' subsequently qualified as a chartered accountant.

More recently, studied jazz harmony and related matters for six years with Roger Marsden and double bass with Mario Castronari and Ron Mathewson. Now a freelance bass player mostly, but not exclusively, in the field of jazz.
